You will pass by Ilha dos Amores “Sweethearts’ Island”. A small island in the Douro River, one of the most unknown treasures of this Region. Legend has it that this is where a noblewomen and a young woodcutter used to meet. This was a forbidden love and, as is usual, such stories it ended in tragedy. The couple lived their love in secret due to the customs of the time that prohibited relations between people of different social status, on the way to the island a storm broke out that the small boat where the lovers followed sank and both perished. Nowadays, Ilha dos Amores continues to be visited by curious people and couples in love.
